The Flowers That Matter More Than Most

By Bud Dauphin on August 31, 2018 in Flowers, Summer. 0 Comments

Whenever we do family flowers for a funeral, we send a small vase of roses along from Marcia Schaaf and the staff here at Schaaf Floral. We have stacks and stacks of thank you's from family members of the deceased. People truly appreciate being remembered at this sad time in their lives, and we really feel good doing it and receiving a special thank you. As we reflect on why, how and when flowers really matter, we can't help but think of the most challenging events of our lives. Flowers are wordless communicators of our sentiments. They can speak when words fail us, reflecting how we feel with quiet grace. Read More about The Flowers That Matter More Than Most

Beautiful Flowers Bees Love

By Bud Dauphin on August 13, 2018 in Flowers, Summer. 0 Comments

There is a growing problem these days where bees are concerned. Their population is dwindling due to habitat loss and climate change. As a result, these valuable pollinators are becoming less able to contribute to major food sources. It’s important to keep bees alive and start to see their numbers grow. Schaaf Floral suggests that by maintaining a healthy garden or yard that attracts bees, we can do our part in re-establishing their homes and numbers. Providing fresh water and a bit of shade, including bee-friendly flowers in your outdoor space, and keeping your yard and garden free of harmful pesticides are all ways we can help bees and fight their declining numbers. Bees are attracted to bright yellows and reds, as well as deep blues and purples, and they love simple, single petal flowers like daisies and sunflowers. Read More about Beautiful Flowers Bees Love

Flower Gardens for Butterflies and Bees

By Bud Dauphin on July 3, 2017 in Flowers, Summer. 0 Comments

Is there anything more beautiful than a garden overflowing with summer flowers? Your idea of a garden may be a collection of potted blooms on your patio, or a butterfly garden that takes up your whole yard. Either way, there is no denying that flowers attract all kinds of insects - both welcome and otherwise! The good news is, you can plant flowers that will attract the insects you want, while repelling the ones you don't  - all with a little help from Schaaf Floral. Butterflies, Yes. But Bees? Your idea of an idyllic summer scene may not include honeybees, but these industrious little guys are actually absolutely critical to our ecosystem. And with the global crisis affecting their populations, anything we can do to help them thrive is encouraged. And don't worry - they rarely sting unless threatened or harassed. So sit back, and enjoy them from comfortable distance and they won't bother you at all. They are actually quite fascinating!  Read More about Flower Gardens for Butterflies and Bees
