The majority of the founding fathers favored choosing July 4th to commemorate our freedom, but how they arrived at that day is a bit unclear.  Only two of them actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, with the rest adding their signatures on August 2, 1776. John Adams had his own idea, proclaiming that July 2 was the day to be celebrated ” from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”
